CULINARY DELIGHTS

At a national level, CTVS has been cooking up a storm with Schmidt Media to produce some culinary masterpieces, so to speak. Hosted by the famous Chinese actress Zhang Yamei, we set up a studio in the Beer Garden of the Kempinski Hotel’s Paulaner Brauhaus (yes.. it WAS tempting!) to produce a television cooking show.

Several hundred metres of triax cabling, comprehensive lighting, a crane camera and Steadicam put the German chefs and celebrities - including Chinese Olympic swimmers Li Na and Qian Hong - into the picture. The 30 minute segments are set to air on Chinese TV later this year.

DOCUMENTARIES – Snow Covered Siberia and Yangtze River Spring

Contracted by ORF, CTVS crews once again donned their adventure gear for two brilliant outdoor excursions. One team headed to breathtaking snow-covered Siberia, travelling for days on end to capture the remote picturesque winter wonderland while shooting a feature focusing on life on the Russian/Chinese border. In co-operation with CCTV, another team headed for warmer pastures, following the mighty strength of the Yangtze River along its winding and often treacherous path to the ocean. Shooting in spring enabled the crew to capture the intricacies of everyday lives of people living en-route, constantly framed by the River’s fierce majesty. What an experience!

The busy month of may

May saw one of CTVS’ busiest months on record. As the politically significant visit to China of the new Russian President coincided with the tragic earthquake disaster in Sichuan, CTVS’ resources were put to the test.

Over 200 live feeds ensured that China and the world were kept abreast of both internationally important events.

Providing technical equipment and experienced staff, up-to-the-minute pictures and feeds were sent to our client EBU who then ensured their distribution across the globe.

Recently purchased equipment and the very best of crew enabled the running of up to four live positions simultaneously under tremendous pressure.

AUTO CHINA 2008

Making use of our ever-growing stable of equipment and crew, CTVS was called upon once again to cover China’s most prestigious and globally significant motorshow event. Providing multi-camera set-ups in SD and HD as well as Steadicams for live presentations, our work encompassed timely editing and play-out for Fischer Appelt and Creative Technology and major companies including Mercedes Benz, BMW and Skoda. CTVS’ expertise, equipment and complete crews were utilised by several of the world’s leading television stations to ensure comprehensive coverage of the event.

ARD SPORTS – starring the CTVS SNG

Following the German National Women’s Football Team for over a month, one camera-crew with one Avid Media Composer in-hand, organised broadcasting logistics, produced, covered, filmed and satellite fed all of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Football games on a daily basis to Germany. The CTVS SNG covered the quarter-finals in Tianjin, extending the host broadcasters’ world signal via one camera in the stadium (right behind the German goal!) and one camera for exclusive interviews with coaches and players.

Climate Summit – two weeks in paradise

Heading to Bali Indonesia for over two weeks, CTVS provided complete coverage of the World Climate Summit for ORF. We ensured that all of our partners were catered for, supplying EBU clients with editing services (on our handy mobile Avid Media Composer) and providing technical support for Bloomberg, RTBF (Belgium TV) and ND-TV (India). Daily feeds from Bali to Vienna did cut our beach time down a bit, but we can’t complain.

ADIDAS – breaking news

When ADIDAS has something to say, CTVS is always on hand. Recently we provided worldwide distribution of an ADIDAS news release. No easy feat, this was accomplished with four HD crews (using Sony HDW-750P) editing and playing-out for Can Communicate (one of the world’s leading communication agencies). Our super-fit adventurous crew followed famous Olympic athletes from all over the world. The VNR was fed to all continents directly from our office in Sanlitun Beijing, via fibre optics.

Morning TV – live from Beijing

CTVS quickly adapted to German time for one week of live coverage for ARD’s popular morning TV show, Morgenmagazin. Over three hours of daily transmission from downtown Beijing was compiled and included a very interesting inside view of life and the Olympic Water Cube under construction. Jochen Greabert (ARD’s Beijing correspondent) provided stand-ups at the top of every hour as he interviewed locals and officials (including the director of BOCOG) and interacted with the studio in Cologne.

EFE – keeping Spanish speakers in touch with China

Working hand-in-hand with the world’s biggest Spanish language press agency EFE, we provide full media services as required while supporting their TV production department throughout China and the region.

EBU – providing European broadcasters with the equipment they need

Key political events can happen at a moment’s notice. For years we have been providing logistics, equipment and on the ground services for the European Broadcasting Union as they cover issues that affect the world (such as the recent Six Party Talks in Beijing).

ADIDAS – a marathon effort

Our alliance with Schmidt Media in Germany saw us take-on the 2007 Great Wall Marathon for Adidas alongside German singer Reamon and swimming sensation Britta Steffi. A 15 minute memory of their experience was broadcast via satellite to Germany on Sunday May 20th.

JIA JIA – a documentary about perseverance and human strength

CTVS follows the dreams of a six year old gymnast on her way to athletic success as she overcomes adversity, strict training regiments and personal adversity. An ongoing account of a young girl’s dream, Jia Jia starting filming in 2006 with 16:9 footage; her life story is just beginning.

DW MONGOLIA – world wide coverage

Braving the Mongolian winter, CTVS crew went off-road in search of an amazing artist for a special Deutsche Welle (DW) World production. The beauty of the untamed wilderness and the people we met on the way thrilled staff and international audiences alike.

IRON ROAD – movie magic!

Our well-equipped technical department provided the editing system (Avid Adrenaline) for the crucial role of cutting the dailies on this Sino-US movie production starring Sam Neil and Peter O’Toole. We also provided full technical support for the editing suite throughout production in Beijing.
